PDF Elements does not Open PDF File

8 posts in this topic

Greetings,

The latest version of PDF Elements does not open PDF files (not all). The files in question are opened almost instantly by Acrobat.

The program PDF Elements starts opening a file then it stops with no results. The progress bar has been terminated by appearing a red close button.

This is very annoying - PDF Element are supposed to be a reliable pdf program manipulation.

Please advice - my question is directed specially to the Technical Support.

Thank you in advance

Hi Francis,

Our programmers have checked the report, and it seems your Mac is missing the file of "curl" that has caused the program. For the case, please make sure to open the Terminal application on your Mac.

After launching it, please enter whereis curl, then press the Enter key to check the result. You can also make a screenshot to show me the result you get.

Thanks

Hi Francis,

Could you please share your solution here? Do you copy a curl file on your Mac, then it works now?

Thanks

Absolutely. I removed curl from /usr/bin to another directory  two years ago, because I found that a lot of malware appeared to use it. At that time it did not prevent PDFElement from working. When I need curl to be in its usual directory (which is not often, mainly to use homebrew), I use to put it back to its normal place. I am a bit surprised that PDFElement uses it, but OK now I know I'll have curl in place to use PDFElement. Thank you again.

Francis

Hi Francis,

Thanks for your sharing. It is correct, you need to move the curl file back to the default directory of /usr/bin, if missing this file in the default directory, then it will cause the program issue.

Thanks
