  1. I am trying to extract data from large number of scanned PDFs, each is a "spreadsheet" but none are identical in layout. Arguably these are not very good scans as they are downloaded "as is" from United Nations archive files but these are the only versions I have access to for these periods of time. I have attempted to use the Data Extraction tool and am selecting individual rows, groups of rows, and even an entire portion of the page. This is an effort to eliminate unneeded data, etc. None of my attempts has been successful. The .csv file presents the data out of order, does not reflect proper spacing (allowing me to use "text to columns" in Excel), and is some cases the grid from the spreadsheet itself is recognized as text and is inserted into the data. I have tried using OCR before Data Extraction and the results are even worse. I've attached an example of one file. The first page has a red box the shows the data I'm trying to extract. I have also attempted to use the Export to Excel feature but this too is not working well - I'm still having to spend as much time moving data to the correct column/row as it would take to retype the entire spreadsheet. Because I have hundreds of pages to go through I was hoping to find a faster solution. Any assistance would be appreciated. feb-1993.pdf
  2. OCR modifying resolution of image

I am using PDFelement Pro 6 for macOS. I have a large scanned book that I would like to make searchable. When I run OCR against it, the result is indeed searchable. But all the pages have been changed to 25.63x33 inches instead of 8.5x11. Is it possible to run OCR to make a file searchable without in any way modifying the scanned images inside it?

Using Migration Assistant and a Time Machine backup, I have PDF Element working on the new computer and have uninstalled it from the old computer (MacBook Air 13 mid-2013). Will I receive update notices on the new computer? If the answer is no, please give me instructions on the steps to take to have update notices appear on the new computer.
  5. Does PDF Element work with OS X 10.13.3?

I have PDF Element Pro 6.4.4. I think it's "for Mac" but there seems to be no way to tell if it is or not. What I do know is that I cannot get editable files after using OCR on PDFs. This is the only reason I bought the software and I can't seem to find any help, support, or contact information on the site. Does any know if the 6.4.4 is supposed to work with OS X High Sierra, or how to tell whether the program I was sold is meant for a Mac at all?

  8. OCR not editable

I purchased PDF Element last year, was able to successfully OCR and edit one document, now it's not working well enough to be useable at all. I am running the latest OS High Sierra on a MacBook Pro. Looking at help menus I have tried trashing and reinstalling the program twice, and I now have what I believe is the latest edition of PDF Element Depending which set of directions I follow I either get a complete blank when I perform OCR on a PDF document, or I get a version of the original that is not really editable. The formatting comes out all cockeyed -- the margins, the spacing, the fonts, the formatting just a mess, and trying to fix it by further editing just makes it worse. I am attaching two examples of the results I get when I try to "convert PDFs to editable text" -- one is to Pages format, the other to Text Edit. I have gotten good use out of some Wondershare software I've used in the past, but this program is not working for me. What's the matter?
  9. Registration Failure

I registered my copy of PDFElement a couple of days ago, and it seemed to be working well. When I opened it today, I received this error dialog box: It reads: "Note: Connection timeout, please try again." I clicked "OK" to dismiss the dialog box, assuming that it was a simple glitch, but when I tried to save some PDF changes, I found that my copy of PDFElement had become unregistered. When I attempted to re-register PDFElement using my licensed email and registration code, the "Registered Successfully" web page was opened; however, in the app itself, the same error dialog was presented again, and the application remained unregistered. My network connection is very fast, and working just fine for all other communications. At this point, I'm completely stuck, and I find this behavior ridiculous and infuriating. The app shouldn't immediately un-register itself when it can't contact a server somewhere, and it shouldn't rely on such a fragile registration mechanism. Please advise how to proceed. Thanks.
  10. Does PDF Element work with OS X High Sierra?

I have PDF Element Pro for Mac version 6.4.4 but it doesn't work for OCR, the only thing I need it for. I am running the latest OS X 10.13.3 High Sierra. Are they compatible? Does anybody know?
  11. So everything was working well when I was editing my PDF. The font was the same, it looked the exact same, but after I saved the document and emailed it to myself I was able to see everything I edited. Every word and number I touched was darker than the original font. I was running late for work so the only thing I could do was go back and edit other items to make it all blend. Now that's a waste of money if every time I edit a document it's still going to show my edits and not make the PDF blend like the original. Any suggestions??
  12. I report again a bug in conversion of pdf files including tabulars. Let be the sample file Conversion.pdf including a tabular, I wish to convert this file in docx. Fist test: I open this file in PDFelement Pro and I select the Convert Menu then I click "to Word", I get the file Conversion_1.docx. As you can see the tabular is well replicated but all the accented french letters are not converted. Second test: I do the same process but I select OCR with french language and I get Conversion_2.docx. In this case the accented letters are well converted but all the horizontal and vertical lines vanish. I work on iMac with MacOS Sierra 10.12.6. Regards. Conversion.pdf Conversion_2.docx Conversion_1.docx
  13. My version is Mac AppStore version with in-app purchases actived. A 19-page document, once converted into word, has become 36 pages because the layout has changed: the page format has changed from A4 to Letter USA, orientation changed from vertical to horizontal: even back in Word with another name does not allow to change page format , margins, orientation. Please resolve. Thank you. Attach document: it's user guide of a program. Malwarebytes-For-Mac-User-Guide.pdf

  16. In the creation of the modules the date field is not configured to have a key that opens the calendar from which to choose the date, which is then inserted into the form in the correct format. At the moment it seems the only lack in the modules because for those who do not know the chosen date format it becomes difficult to spot the right one to fill in the field without incurring errors. In the future with greater use I will be able to consider other suggestions. My version is last from Mac AppStore with in-app purchase actived. I hope it will be added as soon as possible. Thanks. Greetings Massimiliano
  17. Inserted links are not opening up properly in the PDF--it only opens up a blank tab! Serious problem!!! I have the most current version of PDF Element--what's going on?
  18. Preserve Aspect Ratio of Phot

I am evaluating PDFElement as a solution for inserting image files into PDFs. So far I like what I am seeing. However, I am having trouble preserving the aspect ratio of photos when I add them. The documentation says I should hold shift key while adjusting the size, but that does not work for me. Instead, what happens is either: 1. If I depress the shift key *after* clicking on a size-adjustment handle, it is as if my shift key was never pressed. The aspect ration changes freely. 2. If I depress the shift key *before* clicking on a size-adjustment handle, the handles disappear and the image is frozen. (A blue outline appears around the image, but there are no size-adjustment handles, and the image cannot be moved.) I have tried also option and control, but these seem to have no effect. Please advise how I can resize a photo without changing its aspect ratio.

  22. PDF printing loss of detail

Hi, Prints coming from PDFelement appear quite unprecise and partly pixilated. Can you fix this? Please refer to further details below. Regards, Richard OCCURRENCE I was printing a pdf document containing a bar code. Printer used: Canon MG7700 series. Paper type used: standard office printing paper. In the print dialogue box, apart from the fine-print option (high resolution printing) I applied only standard printer settings; no page scaling, and no adjustments regarding saturation, contrast, lighter/darker, et cetera. DETAILS OF THE ISSUE In my search to find out why this effect was happening, I printed the bar code from both PDFelement and Apple's "Preview" app. Please refer to the attached Scan of both prints.pdf as well as the attached Original bar code document.pdf. Please use your computer screen to compare the two scanned prints with each other and with the original bar code document. You should find issues regarding: (A) bar code sharpness (B) text sharpness (C) Picture sharpness A. bar code: · On your computer screen I expect you to notice that the bar code in Original bar code document.pdf is shown in sharp detail. · In comparison with that, please view the second attached file Scan of both prints.pdf, will show you that: o the print made from PDFelement has lost much of its detail. Most vertical bar code lines have not stayed separated - as they should be - but instead have melted into thicker bars which are unreadable for bar code scanners. o In contrast, the print made from Apple's Preview app is quite sharp. B. text: · Between both prints in Scan of both prints.pdf, please compare the letters l in the name of the addressee ("Coolblue"). These letters are much thicker in the PDFelement print than how they appear in Apple's Preview print. Overall, the font thickness in the PDFelement print is not consistent, leaving the appearance of a rough print with lowest resolution. C. pictures: · Between both prints in Scan of both prints.pdf, please compare the pictures of (1) the pair of scissors at the top of the dotted box and (2) the wrench. The pictures in the PDFelement print clearly show pixilation, while they appear quite sharp in the other print.
  23. I have two .pdf files that I created fill-in forms for future use. As they are related, I tried to combine the two files into one file. The program created the new file ok, however, all of the formatting I did to create the forms was gone. The new file was no longer a fill-in form, but just the "raw" .pdf files I started with originally. Is there a way to combine the two .pdf files so that they retain the form formatting?
  24. Batch File Size Optimization

It would be wonderful if I can take batch operation on PDF file size optimization. Thanks.
  25. OCR removing hyperlinked bookmarks

Hi all, First ever post, so apologies if this has been asked elsewhere. I have a number of large pdf files from work. These are all image pdf, so I need to run OCR. The pdf has a hyperlinked index/contents page at the front, which allows me to navigate quickly through the pdf by clicking on the document name on the index. The contents page is also replicated in the bookmarks panel. I have pro, so running OCR isn't a problem, and I have OCR working fine. The problem is that when I run the OCR, it removes the hyperlinked functionality of the index and removes the bookmarks (even if I don't include the index in the page range OCR performance). Is there any way I can avoid this? I don't want to have to choose between OCR and hyperlinked document. I want it all!
